⚒️ Legendary Weapons of Rayndar

Artifacts forged by masters, blessed by the suns, or cursed by ancient powers

Sunsteel Blade

Radiant Blessed

Type

Longsword (One-handed or Two-handed)

Description

Forged in the light of the Golden Sun at high noon during the summer solstice. The blade glows with an inner radiance that never dims, warm to the touch but never burning its wielder. Golden sunlight seems to flow along the fuller of the blade.

Properties

  • Always Active: Glows in sunlight; provides bright light in 20ft radius in darkness
  • Radiant Damage: Deals additional radiant damage to undead and creatures of shadow
  • Sunburst: Once per day, release a burst of golden light that damages undead in area
  • Holy Blessing: Wielder has advantage on saves against necrotic damage

Where to Acquire

Crafted by the Sunward Order's master smiths, awarded to knights who complete great deeds. Can also be found in the Solar Citadel's armory, though it must be earned.

Price

5,000 gold (if available for purchase) or earned through service to the Sunward Order

Wyrmbone Bow

Draconic Enchanted

Type

Longbow (Two-handed)

Description

Made from the ribs and wing bones of an ancient dragon, bound with sinew and enchanted in volcanic fire. The bow hums with residual draconic power. Its string appears to be woven from dragonscale fiber and glows faintly when drawn.

Properties

  • Flaming Arrows: All arrows fired ignite mid-flight, dealing fire damage
  • Dragon's Breath: Once per day, fire a volley that explodes on impact
  • No Ammunition Needed: Creates spectral fire arrows automatically
  • Dragon's Pride: +2 to intimidation checks while wielding

Where to Acquire

Crafted by Garron the Smith in Shadowmere using dragon bones (must provide materials). Can be looted from the Ashen Depths. Some are held in Emberforge's armory.

Price

8,000 gold + dragon bones OR craft it yourself with Garron (3,000 gold + materials + quest)

Soulforged Staff

Necrotic Arcane

Type

Quarterstaff (Two-handed) / Spell Focus

Description

A staff of black wood topped with a crystal that contains a captured soul fragment. The Pale Circle creates these by binding willing spirits to crystals, amplifying necromantic magic. The wood is cold to touch and frost forms on it in warm weather.

Properties

  • Amplify Necromancy: All necromantic and arcane spells deal bonus damage
  • Soul Shield: The trapped spirit can absorb one fatal blow, then is released
  • Speak with Dead: Unlimited use (the spirit translates)
  • Life Drain: Melee attacks steal health from living targets
  • Spirit Sight: Can see invisible and ethereal creatures

Where to Acquire

Granted by the Pale Circle to members who prove themselves. Can be crafted at the Twilight Spire with proper training. Rarely found in ancient tombs.

Price

Cannot be purchased. Must be earned from the Pale Circle or crafted (requires necromancy knowledge and a willing spirit)

Moral Considerations

The Pale Circle insists only willing spirits are used. The Sunward Order considers all Soulforged Staves to be evil artifacts and will confiscate on sight.

Aether Gauntlets

Magitech Artificer

Type

Magitech Bracers (Worn)

Description

Masterwork of dwarven artifice created by Lira Dawnforge. These brass and crystal bracers store magical energy and release it as concentrated blasts. Glowing blue runes pulse along the metal, and crystals embedded in the palms flare when charged.

Properties

  • Spell Storage: Store up to 3 spells cast into the gauntlets for later release
  • Force Blast: Unlimited use ranged force damage attack
  • Energy Shield: Project a magical barrier 3 times per day
  • Arcane Amplification: Spells cast through gauntlets have increased range
  • Quick Cast: Stored spells release as a bonus action

Where to Acquire

Commissioned from Lira Dawnforge at the Inventors' Guild in Starhaven. Extremely rare, she only makes a few pairs per year. May be rewarded for completing guild quests.

Price

12,000 gold (6-month waiting list) OR complete a quest for Lira to jump the queue

Requirements

Must be able to cast at least 1st level spells to attune to these gauntlets

Weapon Crafting

Players can commission or craft their own legendary weapons at certain locations:

Master Smiths of Rayndar

  • Lira Dawnforge (Starhaven): Specializes in magitech, artifice, and combination weapons. Very expensive but cutting-edge.
  • Garron the Smith (Shadowmere): Specializes in monster bone weapons and nature-enchanted gear. Requires monster materials as payment.
  • Emberforge Forges: Dwarven master smiths create traditional weapons of unmatched quality. Cheaper than others but requires guild membership or sponsorship.
  • The Pale Circle Enchanters: Can imbue weapons with necrotic and soul magic. Services traded for knowledge or favors, not gold.

Crafting Requirements

  • Access to master smith or enchanter
  • Required materials (often from monster hunting or dungeon delving)
  • Gold for labor and lesser materials
  • Time (1-4 weeks depending on complexity)
  • Sometimes a quest or favor to convince the crafter

Cursed Weapons

Not all powerful weapons are beneficial. Some carry curses or dark histories:

Examples

  • Crown of the Hollow King: Grants immunity to fear but slowly drains the wearer's life force. Weighs heavily on the mind.
  • The Bloodthirster: Legendary greatsword that grows stronger with each kill but whispers for more violence.
  • Shadow Fang: Dagger that grants invisibility but slowly turns the wielder into a wraith.

Breaking Curses

Cursed items can sometimes be purified:

  • Sunward Order clerics can attempt to remove curses (expensive, not always successful)
  • The Pale Circle might study the curse and offer alternative solutions
  • Completing a quest related to the item's history might lift the curse
  • Some curses are permanent and the item must be destroyed
